...a pleasant DS surprise...

...so ever since i've been watching movies on my Zune on my commute to work on the train, i've been neglecting my Nintendo DS until recent when I've been playing it during commercials or while i'm watching TV. now I can go on and on about all the other games people have been raving about that I too have found my mind go insane from the fun of them (Puzzle Quest, Planet Puzzle League, Elite Beat Agents)...but i'm going to write about a game that i got recently on a whim just cause that I found to be quite enjoyable: The Incredibles - Rise of the Underminer...

...this is obviously based on the movie The Incredibles. So far i'm on the 3rd area in the game and i'm enjoying it very much. this is a the classic platformer. you can switch between using Mr. Incredible (he's incredibly strong!) and Frozone (who freezes stuff ala Iceman). Each have their own special power where on each level you'll find you need to use one or the other to get past a certain obstacle. You can switch between characters whenever you want which is really handy. The enemy's are a little monotonous and the puzzles are a bit easy, but we're talking about a kids game no? This game really just reminds me of the old NES platformers from back in the day. Save points are distributed well through out the game and the boss battles aren't that hard. A perfect DS platformer...

...top 3 current albums replaying on my Zune...

...so i thought i would start doing a current top 3 every month or twice a month considering that this usually changes a lot. working in the music industry, you get to learn about an enormous amount of new bands that either will get very popular or will just pass quickly under the radar. hopefully i'll be able to help these bands out and maybe you out there in the reader world will find out about some new bands!...

It Prevails - Album: The Inspiration
Their first record out on Rise Records is reminicent of a mix of Shai Halud, Strongarm and Further Seems Forever (musically not vocally). This is TRUE melodic hardcore with riffs through out the verses; almost reminds me of as if Jeff Buckley found a dual rectifier, plugged in and just played with Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed.

Jeff Buckley - Album: Live at Sin-e
This has to be one of the best live albums I have ever heard. I've been in a Buckley kick for a while now and i've only recently been learning more about his life and how he loved his Cafe shows. Jeff played at Sin-e a lot and this album makes you feel like you are in the audience and he's talking to you in between songs. He makes you feel as if you are part of his music and you're not just watching a show. You are part of his family. This album includes a few covers which are not your norm: Van Morrison's Sweet Thing and The Way Young Lovers Do. On top of that is probably the best Queen cover i've ever heard of Calling You. This alone is worth it.

Rise Against - Album: The Sufferer & The Witness
Absolutely the best sophomore album (on a major...this is actually their third album in reality) i've heard in a long time since Pearl Jam's Vs. It's great to see a political band get some recognition from the majors such as the late great BoySetsFire. Two great songs are The Approaching Curve and Behind Closed Doors. The hooks are amazing, the music is just pure punk; the dynamics and changes in the music makes me keep wondering what they'll do next even though I know what's coming. Words don't put this album to justice...

...vampires make the heart grow rockin...

aka The 69 Eyes Rock NYC at The Blender Theatre

...last night I had my boys, the Helsinki Vampires that are THE 69 EYES play at the circus tent like venue that is the Blender Theatre. nice venue but the insides really just look like you're inside a circus tent. hard to explain. the band sounded great after a few tweaks in the sound a minute or two into their set. the band exuded energy and never missed a beat from song to song. although I would've liked to hear Devils and Lost Boys earlier into their set, they played a nice mix of older and new songs from their album Angels...

...unfortunately I missed out on seeing the openers (Night Kills The Day, Fair to Midland and Wednesday 13) but hangin with the vampires is definitely a lot more fun...

...it's all comics back to me now...

...recently, i find myself getting back into comics. with all the comic book movies coming out and recently my girlfriend buying us tickets to go to the NYC Comic Con at the Javits...wait...that was way back in February...but still. I bought a bunch of TPB (trade paper back) at the convention and just recently i've been reading them on my way to work.

...i must say Ultimate XMen has revived my urge to go to my local comic shop to buy Volume 2 of the TPB. just yesterday, on my lunchbreak, i almost did that...but while squatting there in the aisle of the graphic novels, debating in my hand to get a Transformers TPB, or the new Green Lantern TPB...I spotted something that I had to get (also was a bit cheaper too):
...yes i'm a nerd, a forum lurker, and a video game comic fan (check out Penny Arcade and Ctrl Alt Del ... two of my favorite gamer/nerd comics...you can find me on the PA Forums as well. I post sometimes here and there...a lot of times praising the Zune <3). i have to say i'm very excited about this purchase. it contains all of the early strips from PA, along with sketches and little tidbits about each comic...

...but after this i have an option of 2 very different comic TPB's that I have. I can either read The Preacher: Gone To Texas or Superman: Till Death Do Us Part. I also have #1-3 of 52 but I feel I cannot start this because I have been out of the DC world in a long time and I have no idea what has happened since the the last Crisis and why Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are gone. Can anyone enlighten me?

...2 years...2 dollars...

...next week comes up to a 2 year anniversary with my gf and myself. rather an odd thing for me considering my last really long relationship and how it just @#$%ed me up. this time around though i find that my gf is just like mary poppins' never ending bag o stuff. which i guess is a good thing huh? we're celebrating at six flags this weekend pending on the weather along with making mixed cds for each other.

...yeah weak but a good mixed cd/tape is like a fine bottle of wine. you need to take care of it, put thought and time into making it just right...the highs, lows, and bringing you in and out of the wonder that is music...

...tonight i have The 69 Eyes playing at The Blender Theater. interesting times are to be had with the Helsinki Vampires. see you there?...
